After walking around there, we took the ferry to Marken, what used to be an island. On Sunday, after the wedding my parents took Janice's mother and George to the windmill park De Zaanse Schans. We drove to Volendam and parked in the town center. This used to be a fishing village until the dyke closing the Zuiderzee (making it the IJsselmeer) sweetened the water. Now it is mainly tourists.
After lunching in Volendam, we took the ferry to the old fishing town of Marken, which is a true step back in time. It is historic and welcoming. It had the complete living room and bed room and the owner was happy to talk about it all. No entry fee, no asking for money.
Alright, what more can I say of De Zaanse Schans. It is a windmill park showing all old Dutch traditions, from clogs to cheese...
